Sixth Grade News

We are still in need of cereal boxes for an art project we would like to do. If you have any empty ones sitting at your house, please send them to school!

Don’t forget about the auction coming up on April 21st! I’d love to see you there!

Grades will be shut down on Thursday after school until April 13th when report cards will be released.

This will be the last newsletter before Spring Break so I hope you all have a blessed Easter!


Happening in Class:

  • Springim will take place next week in the morning and then we will have normal afternoon classes.

  • Math - All math classes need to have all missing assignments, corrections, and signed tests into Mrs. Runge by Thursday, March 29.

  • Social Studies - We will be watching Ben-Hur in class next week to get a glimpse into the relationship between Christianity and government in Rome.

  • English - There will be a test on Tuesday.

  • Just a reminder to make sure any missing work or corrections are turned in by Thursday, March 29th.

Sixth Grade News

We are still in need of cereal boxes for an art project we would like to do. If you have any empty ones sitting at your house, please send them to school!

The end of the third quarter is fast approaching. Please check Fast Direct and see if your child has any missing work.

Our HSP annual Springim will be the week of March 26 - March 29.  The sign-up sheets with course descriptions were sent home today.

Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 will be covering a variety of topics next week as we take some time to review concepts for our next unit of study.

  • Math 2 will be wrapping up their unit study of Chapter 6, “Geometry”. They will take on test on Thursday.

  • Pre-Algebra will spend the early part of the week working on a Transformation Project. The project guidelines went home today. They will take a test on Friday, March 23 on Chapter 9, “Spatial Thinking”.

  • Religion - Mrs. Franklin’s Religion class will be watching the movie The Ten Commandments in class. We started today and will finish next week.

  • Reading 2 - Recently, we began a unit on Poetry. During this unit we will learn how to analyze and appreciate poetry. Afterward, we will create a tournament of poems for our annual “Poetry Madness” competition. During this time we pit poem against poem to come up with our favorite which will win the tournament, much like the March Madness college basketball tournament going on right now.

  • Social Studies - We will finish our study of Ancient Rome next week and will take the Rome test on Friday, March 23rd. The week before Easter, we will be watching the 1959 movie Ben-Hur.

Happening in Class:

  • Math Classes - Pi Day is on Wednesday (3.14). Students can bring in a circular treat of some kind to share with the class.

  • Reading 2 - The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had projects are due on Monday.  Students should have created a collage that represents the book.  The project info and rubric are located on the Google Classroom.

  • Social Studies - We started our study of Ancient Rome this week. I assigned their project for Rome which is an ABC Book. It will be due on March 26th.

As a reminder, students need to complete service hours for the third and fourth quarter. A few students are done with their hours for the year, some need to complete one still, and others need to complete two.


Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 is working on identifying and interpreting number patterns

  • Math 2 will continue to study Chapter 6, “Geometry”.

  • Pre-Algebra will continue their next unit of study will be Chapter 9, “Spatial Thinking”.

  • Science - We finished our chapter on the Water Cycle and will be reviewing on Monday. They will take a test on Tuesday.

  • Art - There is a “One letter, 9 different ways” project due on Monday. Also, if you could send in empty cereal boxes next week, that would be great!

Sixth Grade News

As a reminder, students need to complete service hours for the third and fourth quarter. A few students are done with their hours for the year, some need to complete one still, and others need to complete two.

Mid-term is today. Grades will be closed until next week Friday.

Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 will be wrapping up their unit of study on ratios and rates. They will take a test on Wednesday, February 28. They will then begin a study of analyzing patterns and relationships.

  • Math 2 will begin a unit of studying geometry on Monday in Chapter 6 of their textbooks. The focus next week will be on angle measurements and area of polygons.

  • Pre-Algebra will take a test on Chapter 8, “Linear Functions & Graphing” on Monday. Their next unit of study will be Chapter 9, “Spatial Thinking”.

  • Reading 2 - We are reaching the end of The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had.  It is a book about race relations in the early 1900’s. You can check grades for quizzes and notes on FastDirect. If students are reading the novel, they are doing well.  If they are choosing not to, their grade may not look the best.  

  • English - The final draft of our research paper will be due on Friday, 3/2.

  • Social Studies - We will be finishing the movie Hercules next week and then doing a comparison project about the movie vs. the myth.
