Sixth Grade News

Please check your child’s Friday folder papers today for a letter about parent/teacher conferences! If the time listed does not work for you, please let me know and we can work out another time.


Coming Up:

  • Girl’s Volleyball Game vs. St. Luke on Tuesday @ 4:15

  • Girl’s Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, October 21st @ St. John’s


Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 will continue to study "Decimals".  At the end of the week, there will be a test over using operations with decimals

  • Math 2 will continue their study of  “Integers & Rational Numbers”.

  • Pre-Algebra will continue studying Chapter 3, “Decimals & Equations”. There will be a test on Friday.

  • English - Rough Draft of the Narrative Essay is due on Monday, 10/16.  From their we will do an editing and revising workshop.

  • Reading 2 will be moving from our Wednesday Wars novel to a short story unit in our textbooks, dealing with historical comparisons.

  • Reading 1 will continue working with the novel My Side of the Mountain.  We will be finishing in the next week and a half and completing a book project that goes along with it.

Sixth Grade News

Grades will be opened on Friday after 3:30 pm for you to see mid-term reports.

MAP test scores and school pictures should be coming home today, please make sure you check your child’s Friday folder for those.

Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 will begin a new unit on "Decimals" next week.

  • Math 2 will continue their study of  “Integers & Rational Numbers”.

  • Pre-Algebra will start a new unit next week. They will be studying Chapter 3, “Decimals & Equations”.

  • English - We will begin writing our first essay of the year this week.  It will be a narrative and we will incorporate what we have learned about the 6-traits thus far.

  • Reading 2 - We have now finished our novel "The Wednesday Wars" and will begin working on our final project.  Details will go home this coming week.

  • Reading 1 - We will continue to read "My Side of the Mountain" and look at strategies that will help us become better readers.

Sixth Grade News

Today is mid-term for the first quarter. Grades will be shut down until the following Friday.

Coming Up:

  • Girl’s & Boy’s Volleyball Games vs. Holy Family on Monday @ 4:15 & 5:15

  • Boy’s Volleyball Game vs. GSCA on Tuesday @ 4:15

Happening in Class:

  • Social Studies - The students will be working on an Ancient Egypt webquest next week during class.

  • Science - There is a test on chapter 2 on Monday. The students received a study guide this week.

  • Math 1 will wrap up their unit of study on "Fractions".  After some review time, they will take a test on Thursday.

  • Math 2 will begin a new unit of study next week.  They will study “Integers & Rational Numbers”.

  • Pre-Algebra will wrap up their study the unit  “One-Step Equations & Inequalities.”  There will be a test on Thursday.

  • Reading 2 - We are continuing our study of the novel Wednesday Wars.  We will complete it this week and begin working on a culminating project.

  • Reading 3 - We will be starting a short unit in our textbooks.  This unit delves into both internal and external conflict.

  • English - We will finish up the organization trait this week.  Next, we will begin writing a narrative essay.  The assignment sheet will come out mid-week.

Sixth Grade News

Next week Friday is the mid-term for the first quarter.

Coming Up:

  • Girl’s Volleyball Game vs. Grace on Thursday @ 4:30

  • Girl’s Volleyball Practice Friday 3:30 - 5

Happening in Class:

  • Social Studies - I assigned the sarcophagus project this week. It will be due next Friday.

  • Math 1 will continue to work on "Fractions".  The focus will be on adding and subtracting mixed numbers.  By the end of the week, they will start to multiplication of fractions.  

  • Math 2 will spend next week comparing and converting fractions and decimals.  They will also continue to review operations with both fractions and decimals.  

  • Pre-Algebra will continue to study a unit on “One-Step Equations & Inequalities.”

  • Reading 2 - We are continuing our study of the novel Wednesday Wars.  Each chapter covers one month in the life of a student in 1960's New York.  After each chapter we have a comprehension quiz, and after every three chapters we have a test.  Consider discussing the themes of this novel with your student and how they are doing with the reading and comprehension.

Sixth Grade News

Please do not forget to send the money you are allowing your child to spend at Wal-Camp with them on Monday morning. I will hang onto it all week so if you would send it in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on it, that would be helpful.

Reminder to have your child here by 8am on Monday morning. We will meet on the grassy area between the extended care doors and the church doors on Lavergne Avenue.

  • Girl’s Volleyball Practice Friday from 3:30-5


Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 will continue working on a "Fraction" unit next week.  The focus will be on multiplying & dividing fractions.  For the second part of this past week,

  • Math 2 has studied place value and operations with decimals. Next week, they will continue to review operations with decimals.  At the end of the week, they will take a quiz over these concepts.  

  • Pre-Algebra will take a test on Tuesday on the unit they have been studying “Algebraic Expressions & Integers”.  For the rest of the next week, they will study “One-Step Equations & Inequalities.”

  • English - When the students return from Walcamp, we will finish up our work with the Organization Trait, moving into writing our first paper for the year: A Narrative Essay.

None this week because of Wal-Camp.
