Don’t forget to bring in purple auction items for the sixth grade basket!

As a reminder, students need to complete service hours for the third and fourth quarter. A few students are done with their hours for the year, some need to complete one still, and others need to complete two. Ask your student how many they have left.

Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 will continue to work on their new unit of "Ratios & Rates".

  • Math 2 will be wrapping up their Chapter 5 unit on “Percents”. There will be a test on Thursday.

  • Pre-Algebra will continue their unit on Chapter 8, “Linear Functions & Graphing”.

  • Reading 2 - We have begun reading a new novel The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had.  It is a book about race relations in the early 1900’s.  Students have to read chapters 20-28 for Tuesday.  They should also be taking some kind of notes on it.

  • English - We are currently finishing up our informative research papers.  Students are using their outlines to write a rough draft.  Rough drafts are due on Tuesday, 2-20.

  • Social Studies - On Wednesday there will be a test on chapters 7 & 8 about Ancient Greece. Following the test, we will be watching the movie Hercules as a class and then doing a comparison project about the movie vs. the myth.

Sixth Grade News

If anyone would be willing to donate bottles of glue or glue sticks for art class, that would be greatly appreciated!

After Christmas break, if you could send your child to school with a pair of headphones they can use, that would be wonderful. We are running out of headphones at school as they are older and are starting not to work. It would be easier if each child had their own pair.

Next week Friday is our classroom Christmas party, if you would like to donate any treats or drinks for the class to share you are welcome to! There are no allergies in the class to be concerned about when picking out food.

Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 will continue to review and work on "Solving One-Step Equations".

  • Math 2 will spend next week in a cumulative review. Students will continue to work on reflex Math and will review the concepts we have covered this year.

  • Pre-Algebra will wrap up their unit on Chapter 6, "Ratios, Proportions, & Percents". There will be a test on Wednesday, December 20.

  • Reading 2 - We have just finished A Christmas Carol. We will finish up our discussion on the changes we saw and the play in general. Next week, we will compare it to a movie version of the same.

  • English - We are finishing up the word choice/voice trait in the coming week. After break we will get started on our first research paper of the school year.

  • Social Studies - They have been working on their Great Wall of China project and watching “Mulan” while they work! Next week, they will finish up the project.
