Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. Luke 22:31-32

The Lord’s Prayer - 6th Petition

And lead us not into temptation.  What does this mean?  God tempts no one.  We pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice.  Although we are attacked by these things, we pray that we may finally overcome them and win the victory.

Math -

Math 2 will be wrapping up their Chapter 5 unit on “Percents”.  There will be a test on Thursday.  Pre-Algebra will continue their unit on Chapter 8, “Linear Functions & Graphing”.  Algebra will wrap up Chapter 8, “Exponents & Exponential Functions” with a test on Wednesday.  On Thursday, they will start Chapter 9, “Polynomials & Factoring”.

The study of the Constitution is in full swing.  Next week, 8th grade will continue to dig deeper into the many parts of the U.S. Constitution.  There will be a quiz on the Bill of Rights on Wednesday.

Reading -

Reading 2  has begun reading a new novel The Best Bad Luck I Ever Had.  It is a book about race relations in the early 1900’s.  Students have to read chapters 20-28 for Tuesday.  They should also be taking some kind of notes on it.  Reading 3 has begun our Literature Circles.  With the Snow Day last Friday, we have been a day behind.  Your child has a schedule and has been asked to catch up by Tuesday!  Ask them about their books!

English is currently writing 5 paragraph persuasive essays.  Check FastDirect for current grades.  Many students did not turn in the work that was due today (ie-note-cards, sources, outlines, and rough drafts).  All of that work can be turned in for full credit.  There has been a lot of wasted work time in recent days and therefore work is not getting completed.  I hope this changes in the very near future.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email Mr. Benedict.

The Lord’s Prayer - 1st Petition

Hallowed by Thy name.  What does this mean?  God’s name is certainly holy in itself, but we pray in this petition that it may be kept holy among us also.  How is God’s name kept holy?  God’s name is kept holy when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we, as the children of God, also lead holy lives according to it.  Help us to do this, dear Father in heaven!  But anyone who teaches or lives contrary to God’s Word profanes the name of God among us.  Protect us from this, heavenly Father!
